History
Official the organisation was founded on October 20th in 2007 by the present Director 'Dr. Andrew Eugene Kasambala'.
At first, the house Dr. Andrew rented was empty. Thats why some of the children were just coming for food and went back to the streets afterwards. After the childrens request to sleep in the house Dr. Andrew even tried to find a place to sleep for them. After one month he was sponsored with 20 mattresses. From this time on the house became a living place for 20 children.
According to the high number of street children in Mwanza Dr. Andrew used to select them through asking about their history and family background. For these 'interviews' he was supported by different advisers and experts from the “welfare-department“ to make the selection as professional as possible.
The chosen children got uniforms and school materials (at their own disposal) and were enrolled at primary school.
Since the beginning of the project there were constant changes of the number of children living in the orphanage. The stuff always tries to come into contact with family members or friends of the children so that in some cases they can go back to live together with them. Sometimes even the relatives contact the project members and make a claim that the children come back and live with them.
This process is often coupled with conflicts because the children are often abused as workers at home work without any possibilities of education. Other children leave the project by themselves and go back to the streets. After so many years of a lonely fighting for survival the integration in a social group with rules and a daily rhythm is difficult.
The inner urge of the liberty they are used to have a bigger impact than the knowledge about the unsafe street life without any prospects.
